Learning Last Planner

Any company with schedule slip as a standard part of their business is a candidate for the Last Planner System.
Owen H Howell, Vice President Operations, Burger Boat Company.

It is possible to learn Last Planner® (LPS) from reading or attending a workshop, but it isn’t easy.  Having a coach to help you learn on the job is the best way if you can afford it.

We support the implementation of LPS and lean in design and construction operations through combinations of:

  1. BulletAction learning — learning on the project in real time by taking each step with reflection, facilitation and coaching.   [Learn how to do First Run Studies, After Action Reviews and process improvement this way too.]  Some learning will use a lead-coach-critique format and other learning will have learners working things out from first principles.

  2. BulletInstruction & training — short training sessions for critical inputs

  3. BulletCoaching to support implementation on the job

  4. BulletStudy Action Teams — Action Learning starts with action and learns from it.  SATs look at using other’s learning to improve the project in hand.

  5. BulletLessons Learnt — it is vital that the lessons from this project are documented and made available to other projects and supply chain members.

The approach can be adapted to projects already on site, including those that are running late with a view to recovering lost time.

As part of the implementation we can also help with:

  1. BulletBuilding Board support

  2. BulletBuilding support from senior managers in your supply chain

  3. BulletBuilding the project team

the earlier you start the more effect you can have

Benefits of Action Learning approach:

  1. Bulletlearning immediately applied to a specific project

  2. Bulletsystematic roll-out of whole of LPS

  3. Bulletall team members learn together

  4. Bulletteam identify where detail process improvement most beneficial and involved in creating the improvements

  5. Bulletsystematic evaluation of the project and of LPS
