LPDS Lean Project Delivery System™

LPDS is the Lean Construction Institute’s new and better way to develop, design and build capital facilities.  For more info see Ballard (2000).

Key things to note:

1. the system starts with purpose - for some reason clients/owners are often coy about their purpose
   

2. process design and product design are managed in parallel - in many projects process design is left until after the design is complete (as in the top diagram here)
   

3. taking time to plan pre-fabrication, off-site manufacture of sub-assemblies and logistics contributes enormously to the creation of reliable, quality production

The Study Action Team Process is a good way to start a project as it helps to embed lean principles, aspirations and systems

The Learning-led Design Delivery System and Last Planner System are useful tools for workflow and production management in the design and construction phases respectively
