Key things to note:

the system starts with purpose - for some reason clients/owners are often coy about their purpose
process design and product design are managed in parallel - in many projects process design is left until after the design is complete (as in the top diagram here)
taking time to plan pre-fabrication, off-site manufacture of sub-assemblies and logistics contributes enormously to the creation of reliable, quality production
